I do not lift weights, and am moderately active. A health book I recently read suggested morning shakes with a scoop of whey protein. Is that safe to do, or does whey protein powder have any ill health related effects?

  1. A top quality whey protein has no side affects at all. I’m natural body builder and I use four scoops a day in two drinks. The best way to get all the protein you need is through natural food sources, if you can’t a supplement is OK. I shoot for 300grams a day, but my work outs are intense and my diet is good. For you, a gram per pound of body weight is about right. Our bodies make protein all the time, but for those working out, it’s not enough.
